Consumers increasingly chooses TV bundled with broadband internet and telephony. An OPTA market analysis in 2008 found that these alternatives have not yet led to effective competition. Cable companies still have significant market power because few consumers are switching to alternative providers. Consumers experience this in part because there are no price cuts for cable TV, while prices for other ICT products fall. OPTA opens up the cable market so that other companies can offer their cable TV package to consumers, possibly in combination with its own digital services such as internet and telephone. In this way, OPTA creates more competition and more choice for consumers through cable television. Further explanation (in Dutch) can be found at this link on the OPTA website. | ![]() |
