Energy
SiRM is active in the energy sector. Strategic advice is our core business. In addition, we conduct policy research, evaluations and economic analyses such as cost–benefit analyses (CBAs), and we facilitate joint strategy development. We have in-depth knowledge of energy economics and the regulation of network industries. We combine this with a strong analytical approach and, in every project, take into account the interests of all stakeholders involved to maximise the impact of our advice.
Deep sector expertise
SiRM has been working in regulated markets for almost 20 years. We operate across all parts of the energy system, including heat, electricity, (renewable) gases and waste. We work with all types of stakeholders in these sectors, such as producers, (distribution) system operators, large and small consumers, industry associations, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Ministry of Climate and Green Growth, municipalities, regulators, developers, and others.
We combine the craft of strategic consulting with in-depth knowledge of the energy transition. We understand the key themes and trends shaping the sector, such as electrification, system integration and the scarcity of space, materials and skilled labour.
Strong analytical approach
Our advice is carefully substantiated and based on a strong analytical approach, drawing on relevant insights from policy literature and academic research. Wherever possible, we provide quantitative analysis. For example, we calculate the impact of investments on network tariffs using SEM (SiRM Energy Network Tariffs Model). We are often asked to produce estimates, particularly when information is not readily available. The assumptions underpinning our analyses are always transparent and well substantiated.
Our consultants are experienced in working with large datasets to generate relevant insights and reliable conclusions. We are NEN 7510 certified, meaning that we have implemented measures to adequately protect confidential business and personal information. This also enables us to act effectively as a Trusted Third Party (TTP).
Careful process
Our advice is carefully substantiated and provides clear direction, enabling our clients to make well-founded decisions and choices. The societal interest of the sector is central to our work. By consistently adopting an objective, societal perspective, we are able to work for all parties: government, industry associations, large or small energy consumers, producers, network operators and others. For politically sensitive topics, such as policy research, we ensure that information is gathered from multiple perspectives, for example through interviews.
Through our project-based approach, we work closely with clients to deliver timely results. To ensure that our advice leads to real change, we examine the interests and drivers of all stakeholders involved in each project.
